Giro D’Italia Stage 8 Domenico Pozzovivo

The finale is flat but that will not tell the story of the stage that should blow this Giro wide open as within the final 10km there is a 5 km climb with an average gradient of 14.5%.

The recent Giro del Trentino winner Domenico Pozzovivo is my favourite for this stage even though he met others not quite in the same vein of form 3 weeks ago. What was fantastic to see then was his pedalling action and I think he can ride away from the main favourites tomorrow on a climb very much suited to his style.

Of the others only Rujano may get close as this back breaker will not suit Rodriguez, Basso and even Scarponi may struggle.

Advised Bets

Domenico Possovivo 1.5 pt e/w @ 25/1 generally

Jose Rujano

1pt e/w @ 33/1 Paddy Power

About Wheelie

I'm a cycling enthusiast who once had lofty dreams of becoming a professional racer. I raced against some of today's top pro's before switching to writing about it. I have been following the circuit since I was a boy and been betting on the outcome of races for the past few years. Armed with over 30 years information on courses, riders and the way of the professional racing scene, I've been hitting the bookmakers for their cash regularly. I like to write about the races, the type of rider a race suits and the pricing available in bookmakers for following through with a selection. Cycling is getting ever more popular and betting is as old as time itself so why not link the two!

  1. Yes Yes and more yes’s! Absolutely delighted I picked the winner here. Everything about this climb seemed to shout out the diminutive Italian following his form in Trentino and he didn’t let me down with a surprise attack which no-one was able to follow. He held off the bunch with ease and a double result was the third place finish of Joaquin Rodriguez gaining vital bonus seconds whilst also points for the the Red Jersey competition. I backed him to finish on the podium at 4/1 and I’ve also backed him to win the red jersey which he seems up for. Great weekend betting, so close to having two 25/1 winners but I’ll make do with one and a place. Back to the flat today, check out the write up!
